The three-day Summer Solstice Aboriginal Festival continued at Vincent Massey Park on Saturday.
The festival, which began in 2008, celebrates First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists. It attracts more than 45,000 visitors a year.
The festival website states that June 21 marks a significant time when Aboriginal Peoples across Canada traditionally gather and celebrate the summer solstice. In 1996, the day was officially declared “National Aboriginal Day” (NAD), and in 2009 the month of June was officially declared National Aboriginal History Month, to “recognize the enormous contributions that First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples have made to Canada.”
The festival continues Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
