Evan Solomon will be back on national TV this fall after being appointed to replace Robert Fife on CTV’s Question Period.

Solomon will continue to host and produce CFRA’s daily Ottawa Now radio show.

A year ago, Solomon was dismissed from CBC News — where he had a high-profile job hosting Power & Politics on television and The House on CBC radio — after the Toronto Star alleged he used his position to broker lucrative art deals. Solomon denied any wrongdoing.

A representative said Solomon was not available for an interview Tuesday.

CTV News announced that Solomon, Bell Media Radio’s national affairs specialist, would take on Question Period when its 46th season begins in September.

Fife, the Globe and Mail’s Ottawa bureau chief, steps down after the last broadcast of the current season on July 3 but will continue to appear on the show.

Solomon will also continue a nationally-syndicated weekend show, Real Talk. He’s also published several books, including a novel, and is a weekly contributor to Maclean’s.

In a press release, CTV News president Wendy Freeman called Solomon an accomplished journalist “already embedded in Ottawa’s political scene,” who has “a passion for breaking news that matters.”

Freeman hailed Fife for investigative journalism that “has played an important role in forcing accountability and informing the public of important stories that may have otherwise remained hidden.”
