Buses were lined up dozens deep along Slater Street this morning as a delay blamed on an illegally parked truck forced many transit riders to leave the bus and walk downtown.

According to OC Transpo delays of between 30 and 40 minutes began at about 8:30 a.m. and lasted until 9:30 a.m.

The transit system operator blamed an illegally parked delivery van at Elgin Street for the massive delays, as it blocked bus lanes and forced buses to line up for kilometres.

@geebhyrd We have tow trucks. We can't tow someone's delivery truck. LRT couldn't come sooner.

Transit riders took to Twitter to air their grievances, many simply gave up on the wait and took to footpower in the pleasant weather.

Buses backed up along Slater. Let's walk! #octranspo #otttraffic https://t.co/71HVd8whE8
