Ottawa police have three people in custody after several men were injured in two unrelated stabbings overnight in the ByWard Market.

The first was between two men at about 10 p.m. in the Rideau and Waller street area, police said. The victim in this stabbing was described by paramedics as a 28-year-old man suffering facial injuries. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police are looking for the suspect in that incident.

The second stabbing occurred between a group of men just before 2 a.m. in the George and William street area.

Police said five men were injured in that altercation, four suffering from stab wounds. Paramedics said they treated three men in their 20s for multiple stab wounds and took them to hospital.

Of the six men injured in these incidents, three were still in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning. Another of the victims was in critical but stable condition.

Three people were taken into custody by police but had not been charged.

None of the men involved were identified by police.

Central District Investigations is seeking witnesses to either incident, or additional information concerning the stabbings. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
