As the popularity of Pokémon Go continues to swell, Ottawa police report are reporting their first crimes apparently related to the massively popular online mobile video game.

Police say they are investigating Ottawa’s first reported swarming and theft as a result of the game, according to Ottawa Police Services robbery unit Staff-Sgt. Mike Haarbosch.

Haarbosch wouldn’t give details about the attack, however similar incidents have been reported in other cities and experts have been warning that people should be aware of their surroundings and other risks associated with the game.

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The title, which requires people to walk around the city in an attempt to catch virtual creatures, allows players to drop lures and virtual incense which can attract more of the video game characters to the player’s location for a limited amount of time. However in some cases, including one in Missouri on July 11, thieves have been dropping “bait” in an attempt to lure nearby Pokémon players into the area so they can rob them.

People who are so caught up in the game that they aren’t paying attention to their surroundings could be struck by cars, enter private property or unauthorized areas that are unauthorized, or even walk off a cliff, like two teenagers did in Encinitas, California did on July 13. The pair are now recovering in Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

While the Ottawa police haven’t seen anything as crazy as people falling off of an embankment, Ottawa police traffic officers stopped and ticketed a man near Carp Tuesday night who walked into a busy roadway without even checking for traffic in an attempt to catch a virtual critter. The charge was $30, including the victim surcharge.

“Here’s ya ticket Pikachu,” the traffic officer tweeted.
