Another heat wave is upon us in the National Capital.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning Wednesday morning for virtually all of Ontario, and a southern slice of Manitoba.

Hot and steamy weather will build up through the day Wednesday and intensify Thursday, then continue through the weekend.

Thursday’s temperatures are expected to hit 37 C with the humidity factored in.

The temperatures, minus the humidity factor, are expected to hover around 30 C until next Tuesday.

Fortunately, all of Ottawa’s beaches were open Wednesday – just in time for another hot day in the capital.

Petrie Island East Bay Beach, Britannia Beach, Mooney’s Bay, Westboro Beach and Petrie Island River Beaches were all open Wednesday – just one of 10 days this month that all city’s beaches have been open on the same day.

In their heat warning, Environment Canada urged people to stay cool and drink plenty of water while the heat warning is in effect.

The agency also reminded people to watch out for symptoms of heat-related illnesses which include, dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, headache, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you start to experience these symptoms it’s recommended that you drink water and get to a cool place, like in the water at the beach or to an air-conditioned building.

It’s also advised that when temperatures get this hot you should look in on friends, neighbours and older family members, especially those with health conditions, to make sure they’re keeping cool.

Ottawans are also reminded that you should never leave people and pets inside of parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
