With the deaths over the weekend of Jeremy Mack and Abdirahman Abdi, Ottawa is now on pace for its worst year of homicides since the turn of the millennium.

Ottawa has had 11 homicides in 2016, with five months still to go.

Since 2000, Ottawa has averaged just 9.8 homicides per year.

After a few spikes around 2006, Ottawa’s homicide rate has been quite low recently — until this year.
