A day later, police were still looking for the vehicle and suspects thought to be connected to the Saturday night shooting in the Merivale Road area.
The injuries to the male victim, who had been dropped off at hospital after the shooting, weren’t considered life-threatening and he wasn’t co-operating with police.
Ottawa police said they were searching for a green 2004 GMC Envoy in relation to the incident, but cautioned the public not to approach the vehicle because those inside it were believed to be armed and dangerous.
A person who was visiting a friend at the Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital said they left the building at about 7:25 p.m. and saw a car just outside emergency with what appeared to be about seven or eight bullet holes in the driver’s side.
The individual said the greyish-coloured vehicle looked to have at least three holes in the driver’s door, another two or three in the rear door and one or two in the front fender. The person said the area had been taped off, and that there were two uniformed officers on scene, with cruisers to the front and rear of the car.
Late Saturday night, Ottawa police sent out a tweet, with the photo above, that the guns and gangs unit was looking for a vehicle of interest in the shooting on Merivale. The tweet said that if someone observed a green Envoy with the licence plate number BZRT673 they should call 911. . / OTTAWA POLICE SERVICE
The SUV the guns and gangs unit was looking for was described as green, with tinted windows, chrome trim and the licence plate number BZRT673.
Anyone observing an Envoy matching the description was asked to call 911 without approaching the vehicle.
Police said the have not identified anyone in connection with the shooting and seek the public’s help.
The guns and gangs unit said Sunday that it hoped the public could provide it with any tips about the incident and asked that anyone who directly witnessed the shooting on Merivale at Cleto Avenue call the unit at 236-1222, ext. 5050.
