A woman in her 90s living alone in Chesterville, about 60 km from Ottawa, was terrorized Saturday night when vandals broke in and went wild, screaming and throwing apples at the victim and the walls and ceiling of her small home.
“The victim wasn’t injured, thank god,” said OPP spokesman, Const. Joel Doiron. “But it was a very traumatic event for her.”
Doiron said police were not notified about the attack until a family member was told and came forward on Tuesday.
“The victim was terrorized, it’s completely understandable,” he said.
Investigators were able to piece together a narrative indicating the vandal or vandals went into the woman’s South Street home at about 7 p.m. and “just went wild.”
Doiron said the victim was in good health, but had some age-related conditions that made identifying the suspects difficult.
“Everyone here is taking it very seriously,” Doiron said.
Anyone with information is asked to call SD&G OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
