Police are investigating after a string of 911 calls reported gunfire on Cedarwood Drive in the city’s south end early Monday morning.

The calls reporting shots in the 2800 block came in around 1:20 a.m.

Officers and a police sniffer dog located a loaded handgun and shell casings, both from the reported shots on Cedarwood and from bullet holes in the 200 block of Colbert Crescent, which is just across Heron-Walkley Park.

No injuries were reported.

The gunfire Monday brings the total number of reported shootings in Ottawa to 49, tying the record-breaking number of shootings in 2014.

The guns and gangs unit is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call them at (613) 236-1222 ext. 5050. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 or by downloading the Ottawa Police app.
