A three-wheeled all-terrain vehicle with an alleged drunk driver is the latest in a series of bizarre police chases in Gatineau.

• Last month, an allegedly intoxicated man who had bounced his car on and off the sidewalk and flattened a couple of tires tried to flee from police, but the wounded Camry could only hit a top speed of 30 to 40 km/h.

• Earlier this week, a man wanted on two Canada-wide warrants allegedly ran from the law, but ran out of luck outside the Hull Casino when police spiked his car tires.

• Now there’s an ATV driver in the mix.

Police spotted him at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday on Notre Dame Street near Monseigneur-Lemieux Street, a residential area near the east end of Kettle Island.

He had no helmet and no licence plate, and police said his blood-alcohol level — once they caught him — turned out to be about double the legal limit. (Police wouldn’t give the exact figure.)

The man made a dash for freedom on the ATV, and was caught more than a dozen blocks away after crossing the busy Maloney Boulevard, according to police.

He faces a string of charges ranging from impaired driving to drug possession and driving an off-road vehicle on a public street.
