Genre-bending rising star The Weeknd will make a stop in the capital next spring during his first-ever world tour.

The tour announcement comes as he prepares to unveil his highly-anticipated new album Starboy, due out Nov. 25.

The 26-year-old Grammy winner and multi-platinum breakthrough artist, who rocketed out of Toronto’s fertile music scene with his dizzying blend of hip hop-infused R&B, will perform at the Canadian Tire Centre Sunday, May 28. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

The Starboy: Legend of the Fall 2017 World Tour will kick off its first phase in Stockholm, Sweden in February and criss-crosses Europe before landing in Vancouver for a 25-date North American leg starting April 25.

Emerging in 2011 with a series of mix tapes, Abel Tesfaye, A.K.A. The Weekend, made his name with 2015’s triple-platinum Beauty Behind the Madness, earning him two Grammy Awards and a string of hit singles. He also picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for Earned It from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

The Weeknd’s fourth full-length album Starboy is set for release Nov. 25, 2016, with the title track single, featuring Daft Punk, already breaking records on streaming services.
