A couple of Ottawa’s marijuana dispensaries have closed.
The Capital Essence shop on Innes Road has been closed since Nov. 4, the day police raided half a dozen dispensaries across town, according to a nearby business owner. “I guess they took a bit of a fright,” said the owner, who didn’t want to be identified because he doesn’t “want any trouble.”
It’s not clear if Capital Essence will reopen. The shop had only been open about 10 days. People appeared to be moving things out of the shop last weekend, said the neighbour.
The Releaf Centre, which opened in early September in the back of a converted house on Gladstone Avenue, appeared Wednesday to be closed. The sign on the sidewalk was gone, and the green door down a narrow alleyway that had been the entrance to the shop was locked.
The Citizen reached the staffer who had been working at the shop by phone and asked for information, but he hung up.
That leaves five illegal dispensaries open, down from 17 a few weeks ago. Police closed six shops in drug raids last week. A landlord evicted another shop. Two dispensaries are closed temporarily after armed robberies and another has been closed ever since Canada Post seized its shipments of cannabis sent by mail from B.C.
