Some commuters arriving home late Friday afternoon might be left in the dark for several hours after high winds knocked out hydro wires and caused a blackout in the Golden Triangle.

Hydro Ottawa said in a tweet that crews are on scene near Cartier and Gilmour streets where three circuits are affected. The estimated restoration time is currently midnight and approximately 1,107 customers are without power.

Residents are also being warned to stay at least 10 feet away from any downed hydro wire.
