A passerby alerted firefighters to a fire in a home attached to an autobody garage early Sunday morning.
Smoke was visible from a house attached to the Leitrim Body Shop at about 12:30 a.m. at 4110 Leitrim Rd., between Hawthorne and Ramsayville roads. A working fire was called by firefighters when they arrived to find the inside of the building filled with smoke.
No one was at home at the time and no injuries were reported. It was not known if any cars at the shop for service were damaged.
Police remained at the scene at 9 a.m. to try to determined the cause. However, the structural integrity of the building was so damaged — the first floor fell into the basement — the investigators were having a difficult time gaining access.
No roads were closed.
