An investigation continues into a smoky fire in an Ottawa Community Housing complex on Emperor Avenue in Carlington district Tuesday afternoon in which a pet dog died of smoke inhalation.

There were no injuries, but residents from two units were displaced at least temporarily.

Ottawa Fire Services were dispatched to the scene near Fisher Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and confirmed the fire had broken out in the kitchen.

They managed to control the blaze, but the smoke heavily damaged the unit and residents were sheltered in an OC Transpo bus.

Firefighters also found the family pet and administered oxygen, without success.
