Ottawa paramedics were called to an automotive mechanic garage in Kanata early Wednesday morning after receiving reports of a mechanic seriously injured by a vehicle.
Firefighters arrived at the shop on Beaverbrook Road at around 8:50 a.m. and found a 44-year-old mechanic with serious leg and pelvic injuries.
The man was injured after a co-worker was attempting to drive the vehicle onto a hoist, paramedics said. The driver lost control of the vehicle, missed the hoist and accelerated, striking the mechanic and pinning him for a brief time against a workbench.
Firefighters were able to free the man and begin medical treatment before paramedics arrived.
Paramedics took the man to hospital where he was in serious but stable condition.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident.
