The killings of former Citizen reporter Dave Rogers and his wife Merrill Gleddie likely happened about two weeks before their bodies were found in the couple’s backyard, according to the lawyer for their son who has been charged with their murder.
Cameron Rogers, 22, was arrested in Montreal after Ottawa police made the grisly discovery Monday evening at the family home on Apledoorn Avenue in Carleton Heights.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and will appear in Ottawa court Wednesday after making a brief court appearance in Montreal the day before.
His lawyer, Christian Deslauriers, said his client called police from Montreal, although it’s not clear why he was in that city.
Cameron Rogers allegedly confessed to killing his parents in what police believe was a double murder. Rogers was 69 and Gleddie was 63.
“He called police to report what happened. The way the police found out was him calling,” said the young man’s lawyer.
He said the accused is “shocked” and is in “a very difficult situation.”
Deslauriers said he has yet to see the evidence from the Crown and will likely adjourn the matter to next week.
More to come.
