It ain’t over till it’s over.
With apologies to the late Yogi Berra, this one might never be over for a lot of Americans. But, really, stick a fork in it; this one’s about done.
Donald Trump has cleared virtually every hurdle between 721 Fifth Ave. and 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., winning the Electoral College vote on Monday and all but guaranteeing the hyper-coiffed New York billionaire will become the 45th president of the Divided States of America, as Time Magazine’s cheeky 2016 Person of the Year cover noted.

Befitting an election filled with acrimony, thousands of protesters converged on state capitols across the country Monday, urging Republican electors to abandon their party’s winning candidate.
More than 200 demonstrators braved freezing temperatures at Pennsylvania’s capitol, chanting, “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA!” and “No treason, no Trump!”
Demonstrators gather outside the Texas State Capitol in an attempt to influence the Republican electors from across the state to not vote for Donald Trump when they cast their formal ballots for president of the United States in Austin, Texas, Monday, Dec. 19, 2016.
In Madison, Wis., protesters shouted, cried and sang Silent Night. In Augusta, Maine, they banged on drums and held signs that said, Don’t let Putin Pick Our President, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A significant number of Americans will continue to question the legitimacy of his presidency and whether the Electoral College has failed in the role to which the founding fathers assigned it. Some have also tried to dissuade Trump voters by arguing that he is unsuited to the job.
One of those founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton (star of Broadway, in a sense, or perhaps more à propos, Pense) wrote in The Federalist Papers that the Constitution is designed to ensure “that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.”
According to factcheck.org, he said the college was to preserve “the sense of the people,” while ensuring the president is chosen “by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice.”
And in a prescient nod to reports citing the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency of foreign — Russian — interference in the presidential election:

.@realDonaldTrump I can confirm that we are not tired of winning, Sir.
Congrats on #ElectoralCollege win!

Well, technically speaking, not until the Electoral College’s vote is certified by a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6 and Trump is sworn in on Jan. 20.
Meantime, there’ll be a month of pre-inaugural celebrating for Trump and his supporters. And don’t spare the exclamation marks.
We did it! Thank you to all of my great supporters, we just officially won the election (despite all of the distorted and inaccurate media).

Predictably, there was no shortage of Trump supporters willing to heap abuse on the vanquished.
