You name the precipitation, and Ottawa will be getting it in the next 24 hours.

With Environment Canada’s freezing rain warning in effect, early morning commuters faced ice pellets and light snow on Tuesday morning. Ottawa is expected to get a snowfall accumulation of between two to four cm.

The havoc is expected to kick in later Tuesday morning when the snow will turn to freezing rain. The temperature will rise to just above freezing at about 4 p.m. and the freezing rain will turn to rain.

Fog patches could make driving home a hazard late in the afternoon. Although no accidents were reported Tuesday morning, Ontario Provincial Police are warning motorists to slowdown and leave extra following distance, and issued a reminder to slow down for emergency vehicles and tow trucks.

Around midnight, the rain is expected to turn to light snow, continuing all the way to Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will rise to just above freezing Wednesday morning, before falling to -6 C in the afternoon with winds gusting to 50 km/hr.

Temperatures will fall to -12 C on Wednesday night.
