A young woman who ventured onto the partially frozen Rideau River had to be rescued by emergency crews Tuesday afternoon.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene, near Bronson Avenue and Riverside Drive, after several 911 calls about a woman in the water just after 4 p.m.
Several bystanders tried to help the woman before firefighters managed to pull her to safety. She was taken to the hospital by paramedics.
It’s not clear, police said, why the woman was on the ice in the first place.
