Several dozen bus runs were cancelled in Gatineau again Wednesday as unionized drivers and mechanics continue a work-to-rule campaign in a contract dispute with the Société de transport de l’Outaouais.
Commuting delays and long lineups were widespread across the transit network.
Chaos ensued after dozens of buses remained in the garage for mechanical inspection forcing the cancellation of several bus trips during rush hour.
While the STO and the union representing its 600 drivers and mechanics have agreed to resume negotiations, workers have begun exercise their strike vote with pressure tactics.
The STO cancelled bus trips on “high-frequency” routes where buses run more often than others as a way to minimize the impact of transit users.
The Syndicat uni du transport Local 591 was not available for comment.
