Mayor Jim Watson hosted members of Ottawa’s francophone community this morning at City Hall for the 11th Annual Francophone Rendezvous with the Mayor and celebrated the contributions of La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins to the arts and culture in Ottawa.
The event recognized International Francophonie Day on March 20 and highlighted the invaluable contribution of La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins to the Franco-Ontarian artistic and cultural community. The team of La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins took this opportunity to introduce a new group of donors, Le Cercle 333, a nod to the French theatre address located at 333 King Edward Avenue.
Quotes
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the presence of the francophone culture in our city and bring together engaged residents as well as so many great Ottawa leaders. The City’s Francophone community enriches Ottawa’s cultural heritage and La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins is a great example of this. It creates jobs in the cultural sector while nourishing the minds and souls of Francophones in the area. I am delighted to see so much activity planned for the theatre during Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
Mayor Jim Watson, City of Ottawa
“Cercle 333 is an innovative fundraising initiative to support 333 King Edward Avenue. Donations will help keep the LNSGD site accessible to its four founding companies while welcoming audiences of all ages and backgrounds at a reasonable price. It’s a straightforward, concrete way to get involved in the local Francophone arts scene.”
Anne-Marie White, Director, La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins
