A 27-year-old man has died and a 19-year-old is seriously injured following a violent single-vehicle crash in the middle of the night near the corner of Merivale Road and Raven Avenue.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at 2:34 a.m. on Saturday, finding a vehicle that been damaged so severely it had broken into multiple segments.

“Two occupants were found trapped inside one of the segments,” Ottawa paramedics say. Firefighters had to extract the two men inside.

A 27-year-old man was in cardiac arrest, and was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitate him.

A second 19-year-old man sustained “critical injuries to his lower extremities” but remained conscious. He is currently listed in “serious condition.”

Ottawa police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
