Here comes the sun.

After a Thursday so wet it broke an 1885 record, Ottawa is forecast to get yet more rain or even snow on a blustery Friday but we can pin our hopes on Saturday with mainly sunshine and a balmy 8 C expected.

After that, we’ll be packing the umbrellas every day through Wednesday, the next time there’s no risk of rain in the forecast.

Friday morning’s commute included areas of flooding in low-lying area after 36 mm of rain fell Thursday on already-soaked ground.

The Rideau River spilled its banks at the end of Belmont Avenue in Old Ottawa South and the city’s traffic centre warned that Roger Stevens Drive was closed from Malakoff Road to Dwyer Hill Road due to flooding.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Friday is for periods of rain, northwest wind at 30 km/h gusting to 40 and a high of 4 C.

Overnight, expect partly cloudy skies, the same blustery winds and a low of -4 C.

Saturday is forecast to be mainly sunny and breezy with northwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 and that 8 C high. The overnight low is expected to be -2 C.

There’s a 30 per cent chance of showers Sunday with a high of 10 C and low of 7 C.

Monday’s forecast is for a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 16 C.

It’s expected to be even warmer Tuesday with a high of 20 C and 30 per cent chance of showers.

According to the forecast, the sun will come out again on Wednesday with a mix of sun and cloud, high of 12 C and low of 0 C.
