Each year, the City of Ottawa recognizes its residents who have made a lifetime contribution to the community. These are professionals, activists, and community leaders who have gone out of their way to leave an indelible mark on the City and make Ottawa a better place to live.
Since it was established in 2012, academics, entrepreneurs, business and community leaders, have all joined the ranks of this prestigious order. Fifteen people have been inducted into the Order of Ottawa each year since then. In fact, 75 residents have been honoured with the Order of Ottawa over the last five years. It is our way of recognizing their professional contributions, and saying thank you to these exceptional residents for helping to make Ottawa a better place to live and work.
Last year’s winners included Adrian Burns, Brian Coburn, Sister Louise Dunn, C.N.D., Clarence (Gus) Este, CD, Abraham Feinstein, Q.C., Harley Finkelstein, Dr. Nishith Goel, George Hanna, Tae Eun Lee, Gibson (Gib) Patterson, Jacqueline Pelletier, Chris and Erin Phillips, Jim Robinson, Dave Smart, and Mark Sutcliffe.
The Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching is also presented at the Order of Ottawa awards ceremony each year to recognize the contribution of an amateur coach who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership and commitment that have been the hallmarks of Brian Kilrea’s career. Last year’s recipient was John Medeiros.
Nominations for the 2017 Order of Ottawa or the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching are now open and may be submitted online or by completing a nomination form, available at your local community centre, public library or any Client Service Centre.
