Firefighters battled a trio of east-end fires overnight, rescuing a man from one of the blazes that happened within blocks of one another in a span of hours.

The cause of all three blazes is under investigation.

Firefighters were first alerted to a fire at 253 Deschamps Avenue in Vanier at 12:10 a.m. Monday.

The caller reported flames and smoke coming from the three-story house, which was being renovated. Crews arriving four minutes later found heavy smoke and flames and declared a working fire which ultimately went to two alarms.

Soon after, fire crews were on the scene of a fire at a 209 Ste. Anne Avenue where initial reports were that an exterior staircase was engulfed in flames that rose to roof of the building containing four apartments. A update issued at about 1:20 a.m. reported that a man had been rescued from the second floor by firefighters and delivered to paramedics. A total of four adults were displaced with the Red Cross and Salvation Army on hand to help them but no one was hurt.

Then at 3:24 a.m., fire crews were called to a vacant building at 270 Montreal Road, between Lajoie and Begin streets, where they found heavy smoke and flames.

In all three cases, the cause of the fire is undetermined but an investigator was on scene.
