APPLICATION PROCEDURES

NEW STUDENTS

All full time students who are accepted into a full time degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level are eligible to live in residence. Students who request housing information on their application to Carleton University will be sent the On Campus Living booklet and application. Graduate students who are accepted and live outside the Ottawa area will receive residence information with their letter of admission.

Residence for all new students is determined by a room lottery held on the evening of June 26, 2003.* Successful candidates will be mailed on Offer of Residence Accommodation on the next working day. All other applicants will be placed on a waiting list and may be offered accommodation as it becomes available through the summer.

* Current high school students admitted on or before June 9, 2003, entering first year studies with an average of 77 percent or better will be given priority for Residence. An Offer of Residence Accommodation will be sent to these students with their letter of admission. Please note that these offers are made only prior to and have a deadline of June 20, 2003.

CURRENT OR PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED STUDENTS

Applications are available in the Housing Office. The deadline for applications is April 30th.

You must be a full time student in your current or most previous registration. (Exceptions will be considered, but are not guaranteed.) You will only be eligible to receive a room offer if you meet or exceed the academic requirements: you must achieve a minimum Grade Point Average of 5.5 over four successfully completed credits. Your GPA is calculated on your best marks over a minimum of four full credits in your most recent registration. A failing grade is not considered a credit.

In addition, as noted in the Residence Agreement, should the Department of Housing and Conference Services consider that the behaviour and conduct of a resident has not been appropriate and within the spirit of beneficial community living, the resident may be refused permission to particpate in the process of application to Residence in a subsequent year, regardless of academic standing. Furthermore, in accordance with University policy on delinquent accounts, any outstanding Housing related fees must be paid in full before an application is considered for eligibility.

Rooms are assigned in order of GPA, starting with the applicant who has achieved the highest GPA. The room assignment process continues until all of the available rooms have been filled. Applicants who are eligible who did not receive a room assignment and offer will be placed on a waitlist (also in order of GPA). Rooms will continue to be offered, as they become available due to cancellations, etc., thoughout the summer in waitlist priority.Eligible applications received after April 30th will be placed not in GPA order, but at the end of the waitlist.

It is normally in June that offers to returning students are mailed out. However, in recognition of the double cohort, offers will not be sent out until July this year. Students may call the Housing Office in early June to inquire about their status on the GPA list for room assignment.
