No one was aboard an Ottawa police all-terrain vehicle when it was struck by a Via rail train near the intersection of Colonnade Road and Prince of Wales Drive Monday night.
Officers had the ATV out as part of the search for Nelliya Karbisheva, a missing elderly woman, when the vehicle got “hung up” on the tracks, police said.
The driver left the vehicle and the train wasn’t damaged in the collision at about 9:30 p.m.
There was severe damage to the front end of the ATV.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
