One man was sent to hospital with smoke inhalation, four people were displaced and multiple family pets perished after fire broke out in the living room of multi-unit apartment complex early Sunday.
Firefighters were called to a four-storey apartment building at 28 Rockway Crescent just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with 911 callers reporting flames and smoke billowing from blown-out windows on the third floor.
The building was already being evacuated as fire crews arrived, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes.
Firefighters forced their way into an adjacent unit to ensure the fire did not spread beyond the single unit. An apartment directly below the unit sustained water damage.

Two males and two females were displaced and are being assisted by Salvation Army and Red Cross.
Fire investigators remained on scene Sunday.
There was no immediate determination of a cause, and no damage estimates were available.
