A fire Saturday evening caused approximately $300,000 in damage and forced 38 resident out of an apartment complex in Gatineau.
The Gatineau fire department said the blaze at 160 rue de Lausanne, a short distance from the Tecumseh Golf Club, was reported just before 7 p.m. It was reportedly under control by just before 9 p.m.
The blaze was under investigation by fire department investigators, but had not been referred to Gatineau police, a media release said.
One apartment was destroyed and another immediately above it was badly damaged. All 38 residents of the three-storey, 18-apartment complex were safely evacuated and were referred to the Canadian Red Cross, the media release added.
