Ontario Provincial Police have identified the body of a man found near the Ottawa River.

Last Thursday police, a canine unit, a marine unit, the Clarence-Rockland fire department and the emergency response team responded to a report of a stolen boat on the Ottawa River. A man was seen adrift in an aluminum boat.

Police recovered the boat on Parker Island but after a search of the island, could not find the man. Police aviation and underwater search and recovery units also searched the waterway.

On Saturday, a Treadwell waterfront homeowner found the man’s body.

OPP identified the dead man as Benoît Franche of Hawkesbury.

A post mortem has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
