Fire crews tackled a two-alarm at a downtown home that’s undergoing renovations in the early hours of Friday, hours after dousing a fire that broke out at an abandoned house in the east end.

Both blazes are under investigation, the fire department reports.

The fire department was called to 111 Percy St. at 12:27 a.m. Friday by a company that monitors home fire alarms and motion detectors.

Firefighters were greeted by heavy smoke and visible flames at the three-storey house which is being renovated.

A second alarm was declared and the fire was under control shortly after 1 a.m. with police, paramedics and gas and hydro utilities on the scene to help. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Hours earlier, firefighters were called on reports of visible smoke coming from an abandoned house at 1098 Ogilvie Rd. near Cyrville Road.

Fire investigatora were dispatched to both scenes.

No one was hurt in either incident.
