A Gatineau man and woman pleaded guilty Tuesday in the 2014 shooting deaths of an Aylmer couple who were slain at home while their three-year-old daughter slept upstairs.
The victims, Amanda Trottier and Travis Votour, both 23, were killed Jan. 6, 2014.
In a Gatineau courtroom, René Samson-Vonrichter pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Trottier’s death and second-degree murder in Votour’s death. Samson-Vonrichter’s girlfriend, Sonia Vilon pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter for both deaths.
Court heard Tuesday that drug dealer Ronald Brazeau Jr. believed Votour had stolen from him and sent Samson-Vonrichter to rough him up.
Brazeau has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Votour’s death but not guilty to Trottier’s killing. He goes to trial in the fall.
All three accused had originally been charged with first-degree murder.
Trottier’s parents Claude Trottier and Victoria Lebrasseur — who found the young couple’s bodies — were in court Tuesday. Trottier wore a T-shirt saying “Justice for Amanda.”
They are now raising their granddaughter, who is seven years old and in Grade 2.
“We told her the truth. She knows her mother is in heaven and not coming back,” Lebrasseur said outside the court.
More to come.
