Ottawa police have closed the intersection of Mitch Owens Drive and Stagecoach Road near Osgoode after a dump truck struck a student transportation van Monday morning.

The dump truck collided with the van around 7:50 a.m., while the vehicle was picking up students in the area.

No one was trapped in the vehicle as a result of the collision. Injuries appear to be minor, however paramedics were still assessing the van’s driver at the scene around 8 a.m.

A police investigation into the collision is ongoing.

The accident is only the latest accident involving a dump truck along Mitch Owens Drive. There have been two fatal accidents along the roadway between December and May. In August 2016, a pileup along the road left five people injured, including one who required resuscitation.

Mitch Owens is mainly a rural, two-lane highway with speed limits that vary from 60 km/h and 80 km/h as it winds its way across the city. It is an east-west gateway for a number of sand and gravel companies in and around Greely.
