Ottawa police are warning residents against rushing into deals with paving contractors who show up at the front door.
Last year, police received complaints from people who “hired” paving contractors to do inexpensive work on their lane, but did not sign any paperwork.
When the work was completed, residents reported that the contractors pressured them to pay a higher rate.
The organized fraud unit says any contractor work should come with a hard-copy contract.
“Take the time to reflect on the deal before agreeing,” said Sgt. James Ritchie of the organized fraud unit.
