Kingston police have apologized to an elderly driver who was verbally abused by a police officer when the confused man drove past a barricade and into floodwaters on Monday.
In a news release, police said they were made aware of a social media video showing the elderly driver stalled in deep water at the city’s Gardiners Road underpass.
A voice can be heard of “a male berating and using profane comments towards the driver,” the release said. The video has since been taken offline.
Police were able to determine the identity of the officer shouting the insulting remarks and have begun an internal investigation.
“On behalf of the Kingston police we would like to apologize to the driver, his family and to our community,” police said in a release Monday night.
The driver was not identified.
