To be honest, I like your post to know some information about house marketing. Everyone has different opinions about kids education, school zone, living new-or-old house, near-by working location, Chinese community or less Chinese community.
These opinions are mostly based on own family income (money decide your location), job security (if job not security, how you buy house close work-place), handy man or not (old house need more repair, means more time to find contractor). Listen to other people comments, find a one suit for your family. That is all, Buying a house is a biggest thing in your life. No one is stupid. They like to pay 600k, 700, 800 k in Kanata north, even 500k for a townhouse, they must have their own reasons. I know many friends who work in town and live in Kanata. Traffic is not too bad if your working time is flexible: Normally after 9:15, 10-15 minutes from 140 to Town (25km), 10-15 minutes (2 km) from exit to office parking lot (more traffic in town). it takes 20-30 minutes from town to exit 140/417. it takes more time in winter. if you live in south and east or centre point, and work in town, you still have a traffic problem. After 17:30, Normally It takes 15-20 minute from town to woodroffe ave, and 10 minutes from woodroffe Ave to 138/140 (417 exit) exit, so 10 minutes difference. (not in snow day).
so even if ert0000 is jj, he did not do anything wrong. He just provide you the information and not push you to buy it.. You can decide to buy a house in anywhere out of Kanata, (not need see school rank, no Chinese family, close to your working place, old house in town, lower price).
Good luck!
