Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire in a west-end bungalow early Friday morning.
A 911 call reported flames coming from the basement of the house on Beaverton Avenue near Merivale and Baseline roads.
A working fire was declared at 5:56 a.m., it was under control at 6:08 a.m. and damage stopped by 6:34 a.m.
An occupant was able to escape safely. Hydro crews had to shut down power to the street.
A fire investigator is en route.
