Provincial police in Prince Edward County, near Belleville, had their hands full with a pair of allegedly over-refreshed drivers Friday night.

At about 11 p.m., officers were called to a bar in Picton on a complaint of an individual urinating in a parking lot.

Upon arriving, police and the suspect spotted each other and the suspect jumped into his pickup, with police in pursuit.

He blew through a three-street intersection, eluded his pursuers and sped off.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle in South Marysburgh, several kilometres away, but the driver resisted, stomping on the gas and striking a police car.

He was finally arrested and OPP “determined that the driver of the pickup truck had been consuming alcohol prior to driving.”

Jonathan William Wilcox, 21, of South Marysburgh Ward is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight while pursued by police and assault on a police officer with a weapon (presumably, the pickup.)

Earlier, police had been called Prince Edward OPP officers were called to a dramatic crash in Ameliasburgh Ward where a pickup hit a hydro pole at high speed.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Kenneth Elbert Gauvin, 33, was later arrested and charged with two drunk-driving offences.

Both men had their licenses suspended for 90 days and are to appear in Picton court Aug. 27.
