Firefighters are asking motorists to slow down and move over as they work to rescue an injured construction worker who’s being treated at the bottom of a 75 foot deep hole at a King Edward Avenue construction site.

Paramedics said they were with the man in his 40s who’d suffered a medical emergency and was located down the hole as firefighters worked to extricate him.

They’re rigging up a Stokes basket, a stretcher that can be hoisted using a harness, at the construction site near St. Patrick Street.

The worker is conscious and in stable condition but unable to get out because of a back injury.

The fire department’s high angle team were on scene as paramedics attended to the man.
