Ottawa firefighters were called to a blaze in a home’s basement in the Fisher Glen area after reports that a sofa bed had caught fire around 9 a.m. on Monday.
When crews arrived at 82 Valley Ridge St., near the intersection of Viewmount Drive and Fisher Avenue, they found one person outside suffering from smoke inhalation. The resident had tried to extinguish the fire prior to evacuating, but it spread to a neighbouring wall and the smoke became heavy.
Two dogs were also evacuated from the home.
The fire was extinguished by 9:25 a.m.
A fire investigator was on the scene to determine the cause of the fire. An estimate of damage done to the property was not yet available.
