Are these your shoes? Gatineau police want to know.

No, honestly.

In possibly the oddest police investigation of the week, Gatineau police are hunting for the owners of these rubber slip-ons, hoping to get information about a series of break-ins.

It began with a call to police back on Sept. 6 that someone was prowling around the back yards on Châteaufort Street. Officers arrived and arrested a man inside one of the homes there.

Kervin Irwin John, 40, has been charged with illegal entry, and is in custody while awaiting trial.

But police seized a pair of slip-on shoes, and they believe the shoes were stolen from one of the homes on or near Châteaufort. They also think that two pairs of athletic shoes may be stolen property, possibly from break-ins in other parts of the city.

If you’re the owner, they would like to know. Police invite anyone with information to call Det.-Sgt. Marie Eve Hélie at (819) 243-2345, extension 6233.
