It’s the calm after the storm Thursday, but grab a jacket.

After Wednesday’s powerful storm wreaked havoc across the sweating city, the heatwave is officially over, with a forecast high of 17 C for Thursday under a mix of sun and cloud with an overnight low of 4 C.

The mercury had reached 30.7 C Wednesday but by Thursday morning, Ottawa awoke to 10 C. After weeks without rain, 5.7 mm fell along with the downed trees and ripped-off roofs.

Friday is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 15 C and a low of 6 C.

The last Saturday in September should be sublime with a forecast high of 16 C under pure sunshine and a low of 4 C.

Sunday is even better, sunny and 19 C with a low of 5 C.

Then it’s unseasonal – but not sweltering – weather into the first week of October, when a typical high is more like 16 C.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach 21 C under a mix of sun and cloud.

Wednesday is forecast to hit 23 C.
