Basil Borutski is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

The accused

Basil Borutski, 59, a former millwright, was living in Palmer Rapids. He has not named a defence lawyer, and has not entered a plea as his jury trial opens on three counts of first-degree murder.

Legal
Pembroke Crown attorney Jeffery Richardson is the prosecutor, while James Foord has been appointed amicus curae – friend of the court — to ensure Borutski receives a fair trial. Patrick McCann will cross-examine some witnesses on Borutski’s behalf.

The trial commences this week and is expected to wrap up in January.
