A 71-year-old man may face charges following an incident at the Hull Hospital, where he allegedly threatened staff with a syringe before eventually being subdued with a stun gun.
According to Gatineau police, an officer was already at the hospital attending to another matter when a call came in from the hospital shortly after 6:30 a.m. last Friday seeking assistance with an agitated and confused patient who was threatening seventh-floor workers with a syringe.
Attempts by police to calm the man proved futile, and when he attempted to enter a room, an officer, not knowing if there were any people inside the room, overpowered him with a stun gun.
The man was handcuffed but soon after released to the hospital for treatment on a promise to appear in court. The file, according to police, was turned over to a Crown prosecutor to determine whether charges will be laid.
Two hospital employees suffered minor injuries but have returned to work. A third employee went into shock and remains on sick leave.
