A body was pulled from the Ottawa River near the back of the prime minister’s official residence on Tuesday morning.
A police spokesperson confirmed a fisherman spotted the body floating in the water behind 24 Sussex Dr. and called 911.
Police and ambulance were notified and a full water rescue response from Ottawa fire services was dispatched and located the person in the water. The scene has now been turned over to Ottawa police.
Const. Marc Soucy confirmed the call came in just before 9:30 a.m., but could not provide more details.
While 24 Sussex is the official residence of the prime minister, Justin Trudeau and his family live at Rideau Cottage, across Sussex Drive on the grounds of Rideau Hall, while the official residence undergoes a massive renovation to repair and update the 35-room limestone home.
