Algonquin College has cancelled its fall convocation because of the strike by faculty.
The ceremonies were planned for Oct. 25 to 28.
Algonquin president Cheryl Jensen called the decision difficult.
“Convocation is a time for our learners to celebrate their accomplishments with everyone who taught them, encouraged them, and contributed in countless ways to their success,” she said in a letter posted on the college website. “Unfortunately, the work stoppage means a group of those people are unavailable to share in what is always a highlight of the year.”
Faculty at colleges across Ontario walked off the job on Monday.
Algonquin fall graduates can attend the spring 2018 convocation to be held the week of June 18, 2018, said Jensen.
Credentials will be mailed to students graduating this fall, she said. Any students whose mailing address has changed can contact the registrar’s office.
