Gatineau’s Vision centre-ville group has put out a shopping list of 14 priorities that it wants the city’s election candidates to support in order to revitalize the city’s downtown.
The massive Zibi project and the realignment of streets near it are just the start, the group says.
Among the group’s calls for change:
• “Promote the emergence of dense, compact and diversified real estate projects around the downtown Rapibus stations (including Montcalm, Taché-UQO and Galeries de Hull stations);”
• “Repopulate and densify the downtown core (10,000 new residents and 4,000 new homes)” in an environment where people will enjoy living, with a sustainable and active transportation network;
• Keep up support for the heritage trail and for cultural events downtown. Like many groups impressed by the recent Cirque du Soleil show, Vision centre-ville wants infrastructure to support more big events;
• Improve parking, including more up-to-date parking meters;
• Plan for an eventual west-end transit link with Ottawa’s LRT.
• Improve the transit link between downtown and the Université du Québec en Outaouais campus on Taché Boulevard.
