The University of Ottawa was still negotiating with its part-time professors Sunday night before a strike by the union was to begin at midnight.
Shawn Philip Hunsdale, spokesman for the Association of Part-Time Professors University of Ottawa, said the union’s bargaining committee was meeting with the university to hear the school’s response to a contract proposal.
Union members were getting ready to hit the picket lines Monday if the talks failed, he said.
“If there is not an agreement, we’ve already done our preparations,” Philip Hunsdale said.
Ninety-two members of the union who participated in a strike vote backed a strike if there’s no agreement.
The union represents more than 700 part-time professors. The contract with the university expired on Aug. 31, 2016.
One of the major sticking points in bargaining has been pay increases.
